Project description
The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) Access Road Network Project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, involves the development of road infrastructure to improve accessibility and connectivity within the KAFD development. Construction commenced in 2024 and is still ongoing, with works including the development of a flyover access road and its associated foundations. Identifying existing underground utilities before excavation and foundation construction is essential to minimize the risk of utility damage, prevent construction delays, and ensure safe site operations. Almabani serves as the main contractor responsible for the project’s construction activities.
AQUILA’s contribution
AQUILA Built Health - Saudi Arabia supports Almabani by conducting underground utility detection and subsurface mapping using the Proceq GS8000 Pro Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system. The surveys focus on designated foundation areas of the flyover access road to identify and map detectable buried utilities and other subsurface features that could interfere with excavation and foundation works.
The AQUILA team conducted a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey using a Proceq GS8000 device to identify and map underground utilities in the areas of proposed structural foundations.
The collected GPR data help the construction team identify potential underground obstructions, plan excavation activities more safely, and reduce the risk of damaging existing utilities. AQUILA’s ongoing support contributes to informed construction planning and the safe execution of foundation works throughout the project.
