Holiday Inn & Suites Al Khobar, reportedly completed in 2022 and officially opened in April 2023, is a modern hospitality facility located in Al Olaya District, Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The hotel features contemporary accommodation, dining facilities, recreational amenities, and dedicated spaces for meetings and corporate events. As part of the structural assessment, AQUILA Built Health - Saudi Arabia conducted visual inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT) within the basement parking area to evaluate the condition of selected reinforced concrete elements, identify visible signs of deterioration, and investigate potential internal defects. The assessment focused on areas exhibiting cracking, moisture-related deterioration, and other concrete defects to support the evaluation of existing structural conditions and determine the need for appropriate remedial measures.
AQUILA’s contribution
AQUILA Built Health - Saudi Arabia performed visual inspections and NDT on selected reinforced concrete slabs, beams, and columns within the basement parking area. The investigation included Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys to locate and map existing reinforcement, rebound hammer testing to evaluate concrete surface hardness and uniformity, and Ultrasonic Pulse Echo testing using the Pundit PD8050 to investigate potential internal anomalies, such as voids and discontinuities.
The AQUILA team conducted ground-penetrating radar (GPR) scanning of selected areas of key structural elements to assess reinforcements layout, concrete cover and general concrete condition.
The collected data provided valuable insights into the condition of the assessed elements, supporting engineering evaluations and remedial planning while helping minimize the risk of damaging existing reinforcement during subsequent repair and construction activities.
