Project description
The Khobar Business Park Project in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, is a commercial development comprising building facilities designed to accommodate business operations and related activities. Ensuring the accuracy of existing structural information is essential for evaluating reinforced concrete elements and planning construction, modification, or renovation works. Verification of reinforcement distribution, bar spacing, and post-tensioning (PT) tendon locations helps establish the actual structural configuration and identify discrepancies between as-built conditions and available structural drawings.
AQUILA’s contribution
AQUILA Built Health conducted non-destructive testing (NDT) using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to assess selected reinforced concrete elements within Khobar Business Park. The surveys focused on identifying and mapping reinforcement distribution and spacing, as well as verifying the location and spacing of post-tensioning (PT) tendons where detectable.
The AQUILA team conducted GPR surveys using different Proceq devices including a GS8000 to locate and map the layout of embedded or covered elements.
The collected GPR data and on-site markings provided valuable information on the existing reinforcement arrangement and PT tendon layout, enabling comparison with available structural drawings and supporting safer planning for drilling, coring, and other construction activities. This assessment helped minimize the risk of damaging embedded reinforcement and PT tendons while supporting informed engineering and construction decisions.
